A new weather system developing over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression and escalate into a cyclonic storm by November 1, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The approaching system poses a fresh threat to coastal Andhra Pradesh, which was struck just days prior on October 28 by Cyclone Arnab’s 150 kmph winds.

Meteorologists report that the low-pressure area is moving west-northwestwards and is projected to reach the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coastline by the evening of November 2. Coastal belts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall on November 2, followed by widespread heavy precipitation through November 3.

Neighboring regions are also bracing for impact, with severe rainfall warnings issued for Rayalaseema on November 2 and 3, while coastal Odisha is expected to face heavy downpours on November 3 and 4. State administrative machinery and weather agencies remain on high alert as the system develops further over the ocean.
