Chandigarh, Oct 31: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its first list of 40 candidates for the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly elections on Saturday, following approval from the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) in Delhi. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been re-nominated from his current constituency of Dhuri, while jailed minister Sanjeev Arora was named as the candidate for Ludhiana West.
The initial lineup features incumbent lawmakers, including Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura and four female candidates: Inderjit Kaur Mann (Nakodar), Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora (Moga), Santosh Kataria (Balachaur), and Baljinder Kaur (Talwandi Sabo). Addressing reporters alongside Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, CM Mann stated that early announcements allow candidates adequate time to present the government’s development record—focusing on healthcare, education, and rural infrastructure—directly to voters ahead of the polls.
Party officials confirmed that future candidate lists will incorporate new faces and additional sitting cabinet ministers. The candidate selections were finalized during deliberations between CM Mann, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, setting the stage for the state assembly elections scheduled for early 2027.
