Fatehgarh Sahib, May 3: A female gynaecologist serving at the Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital reportedly died by suicide in her official residence, causing significant distress among the local medical fraternity. Dr. Riya, a recent MBBS graduate originally from Bathinda, was discovered hanging in her government-allotted quarters on the hospital premises.

The physician had been stationed at the facility for only six weeks prior to the incident. Local law enforcement, led by Fatehgarh Sahib Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar, arrived at the scene immediately after being alerted. SHO Kumar stated that a preliminary search of the residence yielded no suicide note, leaving investigators without an immediate explanation for the tragedy.

While the exact motive remains unknown, authorities noted that initial conversations with coworkers pointed toward personal difficulties. “Preliminary inquiries with colleagues suggested that the doctor had been under some mental stress recently,” the SHO affirmed.

The body has been moved to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the formal cause of death. Police officials asserted that the deceased’s family in Bathinda has been notified and that the ongoing probe will incorporate statements from her relatives and the findings of the autopsy report.
