Chandigarh, March 10 — Controversy has erupted over the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 12 Political Science exam after students were asked two questions about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The March 4 exam included queries on the party’s founding year and its policies, drawing criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Punjab BJP media head Vineet Joshi accused AAP of using the education system to shape young minds ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. “Asking students about AAP’s policies suggests they were taught about them throughout the year, which raises concerns about political influence in education,” Joshi said. He also questioned why other major parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP, were omitted from the exam.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains dismissed the criticism, stating that the syllabus covers all political parties and that question papers are prepared by experts. “These are routine questions set as per the curriculum,” Bains said.
A PSEB official noted that past exams included similar questions about other parties. “In the 2023 supplementary exams, students were asked about BJP’s policies, and in 2021, they wrote about Congress,” the official said.
