Amritsar, April 11: Veteran farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, after spending four days in a private hospital in Barnala, joined a ‘kisan mazdoor mahapanchayat’ in Amritsar’s Kohali village on Thursday, reaffirming his commitment to the farmers’ struggle.

Dallewal, who had been hospitalised due to weakness and low blood pressure following a prolonged hunger strike, was discharged earlier in the day. Dr. Ishan Bansal, who treated him, said, “When he was brought in, he was dehydrated and his blood pressure was low. We administered fluids and supportive care. His condition has now stabilised, but he has been advised rest.”

The joint convener of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, Dallewal had ended his 131-day fast-unto-death on April 6. Before heading to Amritsar, he told mediapersons, “I have dedicated my life to the farmers’ cause. The movement continues, and the Amritsar convention is a crucial step in this struggle.”

Speaking about thefts reported at protest sites, he added, “We have informed the government and the administration. We will reclaim every right of the farmers.”

His son, Gurpinder Singh Dallewal, who stayed by his side at the hospital and accompanied him to Amritsar, appealed to the youth to join the farmers’ movement actively.
