Hoshairpur, April 21— A 24-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a quarrel over a pending payment of just Rs 40–50 at the Sabzi Mandi market, police said on Monday.

The victim, identified as Sanjeet Kumar, held a contract to clean the market and charged vendors Rs 10 each for his services. According to investigators, the incident unfolded on Sunday night when Kumar confronted a vendor over the small unpaid amount.

What began as a heated exchange soon escalated, and the vendor allegedly attacked Kumar with a sharp weapon.

“He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the local government hospital,” said a police official. Kumar was later referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana, where he died on Monday.

Authorities said a murder case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the accused, who fled the scene after the attack.
