New Delhi, May 6: An Aeroflot flight en route from Bangkok to Moscow with more than 400 people aboard made an emergency landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday afternoon after suspected fumes were detected in the cabin, according to an official source familiar with the situation.

The aircraft, operating as flight SU273, was diverted mid-flight and safely touched down in Delhi at approximately 3:50 p.m. The source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, said the crew reported the presence of potential fumes inside the cabin, prompting the unscheduled landing.

“The pilots took precautionary measures and diverted the flight to Delhi to ensure passenger safety,” the source said, adding, “There were no immediate reports of injuries.”

The aircraft involved was identified as a Boeing 777-300ER, according to data available from flight-tracking platform Flightradar24. Emergency protocols were initiated upon landing, and passengers were safely deplaned, the source added.

Attempts to reach Aeroflot, Russia’s national airline, for an official comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

As of now, it remains unclear what caused the suspected fumes. Authorities are expected to carry out a detailed inspection of the aircraft before it resumes operations.
