New Delhi, August 11: A US federal court has permanently thrown out criminal charges against Indian industrialist Gautam Adani and senior executive associates in a bribery and securities fraud case, delivering a decisive legal victory for the conglomerate. US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn accepted a Department of Justice motion to dismiss the indictment with prejudice, ensuring the three counts cannot be refiled in the future. The case originated from November 2024 allegations that group executives conspired to pay $250 million in bribes to Indian government officials to secure solar power supply contracts projected to yield over $2 billion in profits. The Adani Group consistently rejected all allegations as baseless, maintaining full faith in international legal systems.
The Department of Justice sought full dismissal after determining that continuing the prosecution did not serve the interests of justice. Federal prosecutors pointed to significant jurisdictional hurdles, the foreign nature of the alleged conduct, and an absence of identified investor losses. The court granted the dismissal after receiving sworn declarations confirming that no undisclosed deal or quid pro quo existed regarding an earlier investment pledge by the group. Welcoming the final judgment, Gautam Adani affirmed that his commitment to truth and fairness remained steadfast, declaring that the organization will continue focusing its efforts on building infrastructure and generating long-term economic value.
