Jammu, May 8 — Indian air defence systems, including high-end S-400 missile units, were activated on Thursday night across multiple locations in Jammu and surrounding regions following reports of incoming missiles and drone threats from Pakistan.

According to security agencies, eight missiles were launched from across the border, targeting key locations such as the Jammu civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and neighbouring areas. “All eight missiles were successfully intercepted and neutralized by India’s S-400 system,” officials confirmed.

Simultaneous engagements were reported near several strategic locations, including Jammu airport, Pathankot, Akhnoor, and Samba. No loss of life or major damage has been reported so far.

Authorities enforced a complete blackout in Kishtwar district, with sirens heard throughout the area. Power outages were also reported in various parts of Jammu as part of precautionary security protocols.

The Udhampur Police issued an advisory urging residents to switch off all lights, stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel. “There is no need to panic. Authorities have the situation under control,” the advisory read, while cautioning the public against spreading rumors.

In a related incident, multiple Pakistani drones were detected and shot down over Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The Indian Air Force and ground-based defences remain on high alert as tensions between the two countries persist following India’s May 7 strikes under Operation Sindoor.

Security has been intensified across key installations, with emergency protocols in place and ongoing monitoring of the airspace in northern and western sectors.
