Fazilka, May 13— In a noteworthy crackdown on pharmaceutical drug trafficking under Punjab’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nash’, Fazilka Police arrested three smugglers and recovered 60,000 Tramadol Hydrochloride (100 mg) tablets, officials confirmed Monday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said the operation dealt a major blow to the pharma opioid supply chain.
“This seizure is a result of our continued efforts to dismantle drug syndicates operating in Punjab. Further investigation is underway to uncover the entire network behind this consignment,” he stated.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prince Kumar of Mohkam Arayan, Jalalabad; and Sandeep Kumar alias Sanju and Jashanpreet Singh alias Jashan, both residents of Kamrewala, Jalalabad. Police also impounded a Maruti Alto car (DL-2AF-7049) used to transport the drugs.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fazilka, Varinder Singh Brar, said the arrests were made during a routine check post on the Jalalabad-Sri Muktsar road near village Laddu Wala North.
“A police team under the supervision of CIA-2 Inspector Sunil Kumar and led by SI Amrik Singh intercepted the vehicle. A search revealed cardboard boxes filled with the banned tablets on the back seat,” he said.
SSP Brar noted that the initial probe points to the accused being part of an inter-district drug trafficking network.
“They were actively supplying pharmaceutical opioids in the region. We are now tracing their wider connections,” he added.
