Jalandhar, May 14 — The Punjab government has withdrawn the official security cover of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Raman Arora, leaving the Jalandhar Central MLA without any personal protection from the state.
Arora, confirming the development on Tuesday, said he was unaware of the reason behind the withdrawal and demanded clarity. “The government should answer why my security has been withdrawn. I don’t have a single security personnel with me at the moment,” he said.
The move surfaced late Monday after Arora’s security head was ordered to return to base along with all deployed personnel. No formal explanation has been issued by the state administration, but the sudden action has raised eyebrows within party circles.
According to AAP sources, Arora’s recent appearance at an event jointly organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have triggered internal discontent. The March event, held in Jalandhar, was convened to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Repeated attempts to reach AAP’s Punjab president Aman Arora for clarification yielded no response. Meanwhile, party spokesperson Harchand Singh Barsat distanced himself from the matter. “I have no information about this,” he told reporters.
So far, the Punjab government has not released any official statement explaining the withdrawal of Arora’s security detail.
The development comes at a time of increasing political sensitivity within AAP Punjab, where lawmakers’ affiliations and public engagements are under growing scrutiny.
