Bathinda/Amritsar, June 18, 2025: The post-mortem report of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, widely known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, has confirmed death due to strangulation but remains inconclusive on whether she was sexually assaulted before her murder, leaving critical questions unanswered in the high-profile case.
Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal said the advanced stage of decomposition posed challenges during the autopsy. “The body was in such a decomposed state that it was difficult to determine whether she had been sexually assaulted,” Kondal said on Wednesday.
The report, compiled by a panel of three government doctors, states: “The cause of death in this case, in our opinion, is asphyxia due to strangulation.” However, the final determination hinges on pending viscera and histopathological test results. Samples have been sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for detailed analysis.
A government doctor, requesting anonymity, noted: “The post-mortem findings are not enough to conclusively rule out sexual assault. The histopathology report will be crucial.” Notably, the autopsy also recorded “marked congestion over external genitalia along with congestion over the inner side of the upper part of thighs,” details that authorities say merit deeper forensic scrutiny.
Meanwhile, in a separate but related development highlighting the dangers faced by digital creators, Amritsar-based social media influencer Deepika Luthra has deleted all her social media accounts after receiving death threats.
With over 2.3 lakh followers, Deepika approached the Amritsar Police Commissionerate alleging threats from Amritpal Singh Mehron and the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International. She was provided two armed guards for her protection.
Police have since registered a case against Amritpal Mehron. Ramandeep Singh, another individual who threatened to kill Deepika, was arrested from Patiala.
The twin developments underscore growing concerns around the safety of social media figures, especially women. Police officials say they are tightening surveillance and ensuring swift action in all ongoing investigations.
