Ferozepur, 20 July: A man was killed and two of his family members seriously injured when a Punjab Roadways bus collided head-on with their motorcycle near Fort Chowk on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar Dhawan, a resident of Mamdot in Ferozepur district.

According to police, the accident occurred when Dhawan was returning home with his wife, Sudesh Rani, and nephew, Anirudh Dhawan, after a visit to Ferozepur. As their motorcycle approached Fort Chowk, it was struck by a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction.

“The collision was severe. Ashok Kumar died on the spot due to the impact,” a police official said. Both Sudesh Rani and Anirudh were critically injured and were rushed to the local civil hospital, where they continue to receive treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the bus was being driven recklessly and alleged that it veered off its lane before hitting the motorcycle. Following the accident, both the bus driver and conductor fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.

Police have begun an investigation and registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC. “Efforts are on to trace the absconding driver and conductor. We are examining CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses,” the investigating officer added.

The tragic incident has triggered anger among locals, with many demanding stricter enforcement of road safety measures and accountability from state-run transport services.
