Darbar Sahib Bomb Threat: IPs Traced, Arrests Soon, Says Mann

Amritsar, July 22 — Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said investigators have traced the IP addresses linked to a series of bomb threat emails targeting the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) and are “very close” to apprehending those responsible.

The threat mails, first received on July 14 by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), have triggered heightened security measures around the sacred Sikh shrine.

Speaking to reporters after a visit to the Golden Temple, Mann said, “We had a discussion with the SGPC president over the recent emails. We are investigating the matter. IP addresses of the systems used to send the emails have been identified. We are very close to the elements behind it and will nab them soon.”

Accompanied by AAP legislators Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Ajay Gupta, Mann reviewed the security arrangements at the complex. He confirmed that Punjab Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed both inside and outside the shrine to monitor for suspicious activity.

The chief minister also held a meeting with SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami to coordinate efforts. “The CM has assured that the culprits will be nabbed and the whole conspiracy will be unravelled soon,” Dhami said following the meeting.

While the probe is ongoing, a partial lead emerged last week when Amritsar police detained Shubham Dubey, a software engineer from Faridabad, in connection with the case. However, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said this development was only a “partial success,” stressing that the case remains open and no breakthrough has been made yet.

The SGPC, which oversees the administration of Sikh religious sites, has received multiple threatening emails over the past week. Officials say security has since been reinforced with constant surveillance and coordination with state intelligence.

Mann urged the SGPC to share any additional information with the police to aid the probe and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the shrine’s safety.
