CHANDIGARH, Aug. 4 — BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday said that the Supreme Court’s recent observations in a defamation case against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had laid bare the “anti-national mindset” of the Gandhi family. He called for a public apology from the Congress leadership.
“The Supreme Court has made it clear that only an anti-national could make such remarks,” Chugh said. “Even though the court closed the defamation case, its remarks are too serious to ignore. This is a wake-up call for the nation.”
Chugh added that the apex court’s comments had effectively placed a “pronounced stamp” on what he described as Rahul Gandhi’s history of undermining national interests.
He accused the Congress leader of “building bridges with China and Pakistan” in a bid to derail the Modi government’s progress. “People haven’t forgotten how, during the Pulwama crisis, Rahul Gandhi had breakfast with the Chinese ambassador,” he said.
Chugh also raised the issue of a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Congress party and the Communist Party of China, calling it a “secret deal” that Congress has never fully explained. “When the party keeps evading questions about its foreign links, and its leader echoes enemy propaganda, how can the public trust their loyalties?” he asked.
According to Chugh, Rahul Gandhi has a record of statements that have “demoralised the armed forces,” including his past remarks questioning the bravery of Indian soldiers during the Galwan clash and his criticism of surgical strikes.
“The Supreme Court’s observations should be viewed in the broader pattern of his reckless comments,” Chugh said. “The time has come for the Gandhi family to seek an apology from the nation.”
He accused the Congress of repeatedly playing into the hands of foreign powers for “cheap political gains,” and said such actions go beyond politics and strike at the core of national integrity.
