GURUGRAM, September 3— The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana has arrested notorious gangster Mainpal Badli after his deportation from Cambodia, officials said Wednesday. A reward of ₹7 lakh had been announced earlier for information leading to his capture.
According to STF, Mainpal was detained in Cambodia around 10 days ago in a covert operation carried out jointly with central agencies. He was brought back to India this week and taken into custody by the Gurugram STF. Officials said he had been running his criminal network from abroad for several years.
Mainpal had absconded in 2018 after being released on parole from jail on August 29 that year. He fled overseas soon after, evading police while continuing to direct gang activities.
Police records show that several serious cases, including multiple murders, are registered against him. He is also accused of killing an inmate while lodged in jail.
The STF said more details of his arrest and interrogation will be made public at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
