Chandigarh/Nangal, Sept. 10 — Punjab Cabinet Minister for Education and Information & Public Relations Harjot Singh Bains on Sunday said road links, electricity, and water supply have been fully restored in all flood-affected villages of his Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, paving the way for families to return home.
“Residents of Singhpur-Plaasi have begun moving back from relief shelters as water levels recede,” Bains said, adding that rehabilitation work was being taken up with urgency to bring normal life back on track.
According to the minister, flood-hit villages including Harsa Bela, Patti Dulchi, and Bela Shiv Singh, which were earlier cut off by rising waters, are being reconnected. While about 90 percent of the work was completed on Saturday, mechanical delays pushed the final phase into the night. “The remaining work will be wrapped up within hours today,” he said.
Bains noted that the administration has carried out fogging and disinfectant spraying across affected homes in Singhpur-Plaasi to prevent the spread of disease. He said power lines, poles, and transformers had been repaired and made operational, while water pipelines were reconnected with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) boats.
Looking beyond immediate relief, Bains announced that the damaged wooden bridge at Bela Dhiani would be replaced with a strong, motorable structure. “This will ensure both safety and durable connectivity for the future,” he said.
He also stated that the Revenue Department had launched a special Girdawari exercise to assess crop and property losses in submerged areas. Reports will be submitted to the government soon, followed by compensation for affected families.
Bains, who has been personally supervising work in his constituency, acknowledged the contribution of local panchayat members, sarpanches, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers, and youth clubs during the relief effort. “Their dedication helped us stand with our people in this crisis,” he said.
Alongside infrastructure repair, medical services and livestock care are being prioritized. Free health camps are being organized for residents, while the Animal Husbandry Department is carrying out a vaccination drive for cattle. To address fodder shortages, 10 truckloads have already been distributed, with more supplies in the pipeline. Essential rations and daily-use items are also being provided regularly to families still recovering from the disaster.
Expressing gratitude, the minister said, “I heartily thank all those who played a positive role and extended their support to the people of Punjab, especially in my constituency, during these difficult days of natural disaster.”
