Chandigarh, October 13, 2025: In a record-breaking move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has completed the disbursement of ₹20,000 per acre compensation to flood-affected farmers within just 30 days — 15 days ahead of schedule.

Following the devastating floods that hit 2,508 villages and damaged nearly 3.5 lakh acres of farmland, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had ordered a special Girdawari on September 11 to assess crop loss within 45 days. However, the state government began distributing compensation by the 30th day, marking what officials described as the “fastest and most transparent” relief drive in Punjab’s history.

Despite receiving no financial assistance from the Centre, the state government added an extra ₹13,200 per acre from its own resources to ensure that farmers did not face any delay in aid. The compensation is being transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts, ruling out middlemen and procedural hurdles.

Alongside crop relief, the government also conducted a rapid survey of 30,806 damaged houses. The compensation for partially damaged homes has been increased from ₹6,500 to ₹40,000, while families who lost members in the floods are receiving ₹4 lakh each. Financial assistance for livestock and poultry loss has also been fixed to ensure holistic recovery for affected families.

For the first time, the entire process of assessment and compensation distribution was carried out through a digital portal for greater transparency. In the Ajnala area alone, over ₹5 crore has been disbursed directly to beneficiaries.

Under its ‘Jiska Khet, Uski Ret’ policy, the state government has initiated efforts to make flood-hit lands cultivable again. Mission Chardikala has been launched to rebuild affected villages, with Chief Minister Mann reaffirming that “no farmer in Punjab will ever stand alone in a time of crisis.”

While opposition parties have accused the government of politicising the floods, the Mann-led administration said its priority has been rapid rehabilitation and restoring confidence among farmers.

“By delivering compensation before Diwali, we have proved that Punjab stands united in every crisis,” the Chief Minister said. “This is the true spirit of Punjabiyat — to rebuild, to support, and to rise again.”
