CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland, Jan 1 — At least 10 people died and many more were injured after a fire and explosion at a bar in the Swiss Alps during New Year festivities, authorities said Thursday.
The blast occurred at Le Constellation around 1:30 a.m., police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion told PTI. “More than a hundred people were in the building,” he added.
Authorities cordoned off the area and declared a no-fly zone over Crans-Montana. The exact cause of the explosion has not been confirmed. Firefighters and medical teams attended to victims suffering from burns and other injuries.
Investigations are ongoing as officials try to determine the circumstances behind the tragedy.
