New Delhi/Chandigarh, Feb 2: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a case involving disproportionate assets. The decision allows the senior leader to walk out of Nabha jail, where he has remained for the past seven months, marking a major turn in his ongoing legal proceedings.
Details of the bail conditions have not yet been disclosed.
The apex court’s order follows a notable visit to the prison earlier in the day by Radha Soami Satsang Beas head Gurinder Singh Dhillon. The meeting, occurring shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab.
Speaking to the press regarding his visit, the Dera chief described the meeting as a personal matter based on long-standing ties. He stood by the Akali leader, suggesting that the legal hurdles he faces are not substantiated by facts.
“All cases against him are false,” Dhillon told reporters.
He further mentioned that the two discussed general matters as friends do, though he chose not to share the specifics of their conversation.
The interaction was particularly significant as the jail administration had reportedly limited meetings for several other senior Akali figures in recent days. This visit also comes on the heels of a meeting between Majithia and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal last week.
The case, which involved a detailed investigation by the Vigilance Bureau into financial records, led to a substantial chargesheet being filed in a Mohali court. While the legal process continues to move forward, the Supreme Court’s intervention provides immediate relief to the former minister.
