Muktsar Sahib, August 17: A four-and-a-half-month operation across northern states concluded with the arrest of Pargat Singh, the key operative of a major child trafficking syndicate, along with accomplice Mukhpal Singh in Sri Muktsar Sahib. The joint action by the Bahadurgarh Police ended an extensive search for the fugitive, who had evaded law enforcement since escaping an earlier operation on March 31. The network is implicated in the illegal transaction of over fifty infants, maintaining operations spanning across more than ten states.
“The network operated through a highly organized and compartmentalized system, utilizing cash transactions and commission-based local agents,” stated Bahadurgarh Deputy Commissioner of Police Mayank Mishra during an official briefing. “The suspects have been remanded to eight-day police custody to uncover the full extent of the operation, identify intermediate handlers, and trace every individual associated with the procurement and sale of infants.”
Investigators revealed that Pargat Singh projected himself as the leader of a child adoption service, establishing connections with vulnerable families to procure newborns. The operational design ensured that field agents worked independently on five to ten percent cash commissions without gaining visibility into the overall logistics. Family members were also integrated into key positions within the organization, including Pargat’s sister-in-law Baljinder Kaur, to maintain control over the illegal trade.
Following the latest arrests in Punjab, the total number of individuals in custody under the ongoing investigation has risen to twenty-three. Authorities confirmed that continuous interrogation during the police remand period will focus on mapping the entire supply network from origin points to final transactions across state boundaries.
