Bathinda, Feb 12: To bolster public security, the Bathinda police have reactivated their motorcycle-based patrolling units following a year-long hiatus. The initiative, which utilizes 36 motorcycles across two shifts, aims to provide a constant police presence in both residential and commercial hubs of the town.
SSP Jyoti Yadav noted that the force has implemented a pairing system for the patrols, placing an experienced officer alongside a fresher on each vehicle. This structure is intended to improve the efficiency of the 70-member team tasked with monitoring the city. The SSP noted that the presence of these units serves as a deterrent to potential offenders.
“During the day, 20 two-wheelers patrol city roads, while 16 operate at night,” the SSP directly said. She added that the resumption of the service three weeks ago was a response to the need for more agile crime-fighting tools in the urban environment.
Departmental sources noted that similar efforts in the past were highly successful in checking incidents of theft and mobile snatching. A senior police official mentioned that the revival of these patrols is expected to significantly improve the local safety environment by ensuring that police assistance is never far away.
