MOGA, Feb 16 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann arrived at a major public gathering in Killi Chahal on Monday, delivering a strong call to action to intensify the state’s struggle against narcotics. Introducing the slogan “Zindagi zindabad, no murdabad,” the Chief Minister affirmed that the government is launching the second phase of its campaign to dismantle drug supply chains across Punjab.
Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Mann stated that previous administrations had allowed the state to fall into a “drug cesspool” for political and financial interests. He maintained that the current administration is focused on rehabilitation and strict legal measures against suppliers. He further noted that the initiative has evolved into a “Lok Lehar,” or people’s wave, which he described as the only viable method to eliminate the menace.
The Chief Minister declared that his government is also prioritizing the development of playgrounds in every village to channel the energy of the youth toward athletics. He asserted that while Punjab was once celebrated for its wrestlers and athletes, political negligence had tarnished that reputation. He affirmed that by providing 60,000 government jobs and ensuring daytime power for farmers, the state is creating a more stable environment for the younger generation.
AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal also spoke at the event, maintaining that the war against drugs requires the participation of every household. He stated that Village Defence Committees (VDCs) are essential to this mission. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav affirmed that over 34,000 FIRs have been registered and approximately 45,000 arrests made, noting that Punjab currently holds a conviction rate of over 90 percent under the NDPS Act.
