New Delhi, March 12: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to Pawan Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh, two individuals accused in the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. The bench issued the order after evaluating the duration of their custody and the current status of the trial proceedings in Punjab.
Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, while traveling in his SUV. Authorities stated that the singer died at the scene after attackers intercepted his vehicle and fired multiple rounds. The investigation subsequently linked the homicide to a gang rivalry involving the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.
Police filed an extensive 1,850-page chargesheet naming 24 individuals involved in the planning, funding, and execution of the attack. Law enforcement officials maintained that the murder was a retaliatory act for the 2021 killing of Akali leader Vicky Middukhera. Among the primary conspirators identified in the documents are Lawrence Bishnoi and Canada-based operative Goldy Brar.
The trial continues in Punjab courts against 27 accused individuals who have had charges framed against them. While some key figures remain in custody, the court noted that the legal criteria for bail were met for Bishnoi and Singh at this stage. Officials affirmed that several other suspects, including Anmol Bishnoi and Lipin Nehra, remain absconding.
