Chandigarh, March 12: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reached a significant milestone in state employment on Thursday by handing over 818 appointment letters to youth across several departments. With this latest round of hiring, the total number of government jobs provided under the current administration has reached 65,264 within a four-year period.
The new recruits include 459 personnel for the Power Department, 215 in Local Government, 129 in Health and Family Welfare, and 15 faculty members for the Department of Medical Education and Research. The Chief Minister maintained that every position has been filled purely on the basis of merit and transparency, without the need for recommendations or bribes.
“I want to place lunchboxes that bring bread and dignity in hands of Punjab’s youth instead of drug syringes,” the Chief Minister declared during the ceremony. He asserted that previous governments had systematically denied employment to the youth for over a decade, leaving a vacuum that the “Mission Rozgar” initiative is now successfully filling. He noted that the fair process has even enabled some candidates to secure multiple jobs across different departments based on their performance.
The Chief Minister affirmed that another 1,750 candidates will join the Power Department by June 2026 as ongoing recruitment cycles conclude. He stated that the success of these merit-based hirings has triggered a trend of “reverse migration,” with youth returning from abroad to serve their home state. He urged the new officials to discharge their duties with honesty and missionary zeal to help build a more prosperous Punjab.
