New Delhi, March 17: Delhi Akali unit president Paramjit Singh Sarna has expressed his appreciation to the Iranian government for permitting Indian vessels to navigate the Strait of Hormuz despite the ongoing conflict in the region. Sarna stated that the cooperation shown by Tehran is a testament to the trust and cooperation that has defined the decades-old relationship between India and Iran.
The Akali leader affirmed that India remains committed to extending all possible assistance to the Iranian people during these challenging times. He noted that the historical, cultural, and economic bonds between the two nations serve as a foundation for continued stability. During a recent visit to the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, Sarna and a Sikh delegation offered condolences following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“The relationship between India and Iran is an example of trust,” Sarna declared. He maintained that while India appreciates the safe transit of its oil tankers, there is an urgent need for restraint in the region. Sarna further urged the Iranian leadership to cease hostilities against neighboring states to prevent further escalation.
In his appeal, Sarna also requested that the Indian government remain attentive to the safety of the small Sikh community and the historic Bhai Ganga Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Tehran. He stated that the preservation of these minority interests remains a priority as the geopolitical situation shifts.
