Hussainiwala, March 23: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday asserted that quality education is the only sustainable solution to eradicate poverty and fulfill the vision of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. Addressing a Jan Sabha in Banga after paying tributes at Khatkar Kalan and Hussainiwala, the Chief Minister stated that temporary concessions cannot eliminate social evils, but a strong educational foundation can empower the common man to lead a dignified life.
The Chief Minister highlighted his administration’s focus on employment and healthcare, announcing that 65,000 government jobs have been provided to the youth so far. He also urged citizens to secure their ₹10 lakh health insurance cards, declaring that for the first time since independence, Punjab residents will not have to worry about the financial burden of medical treatment. Mann affirmed that these pro-people schemes are direct steps toward building the “Rangla Punjab” envisioned by the nation’s revolutionaries.
Reflecting on the political landscape, the Chief Minister questioned why previous regimes built grand memorials for their own leaders while ignoring the legacy of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. He maintained that the right to vote is a sacred gift earned through the blood of martyrs and cautioned the public against selling their votes for money or influence. “This voter card is not cheap; it has been earned through great sacrifice,” Mann stated, emphasizing the moral duty of citizens to use their democratic power wisely.
The event also marked the foundation stone laying of the ₹24.99 crore ‘Hussainiwala Virasat’ project. The Chief Minister affirmed that his government fought with the Centre to rename the Mohali Airport after Bhagat Singh and is currently in discussions to name the Halwara Airport after Kartar Singh Sarabha. He stated that if the country’s leadership had been handed to the youth after independence, India would have been the world’s leading nation today.
