New Delhi, March 26: The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Thursday moved to quell public anxiety, asserting that India maintains a robust 60-day fuel supply despite ongoing volatility in West Asia. Officials dismissed social media claims of an impending energy crisis as a “deliberate and coordinated misinformation campaign,” clarifying that all 100,000 retail outlets across the country remain fully operational without any rationing measures in place.
Government representatives stated that India’s total reserve capacity currently stands at 74 days, providing a significant cushion against global supply disruptions. The ministry noted that as the world’s fourth-largest refiner, the nation is well-positioned to ensure uninterrupted domestic availability. To further allay fears regarding the Strait of Hormuz, authorities affirmed that crude supplies have been secured from more than 40 global sources, effectively compensating for any regional instability.
Regarding cooking gas, the government declared that domestic LPG production has been ramped up by 40 percent to meet over 60 percent of daily demand, with the remainder covered by secured imports. While a temporary spike in panic ordering saw daily deliveries jump to 89 lakh cylinders, figures have since stabilized at approximately 50 lakh. The ministry asserted that spreading false information regarding essential commodities is a punishable offense and warned of strict action against those distributing fabricated content.
