MUMBAI, APRIL 16 — Actor and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has voiced strong support for Deepika Padukone regarding her recent decision to limit work shifts to eight hours. The debate follows reports that Padukone, who recently became a mother, exited high-profile projects like Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Spirit” and the “Kalki 2898 AD” sequel due to her scheduling requirements.

During a recent podcast appearance, Ranaut maintained that Padukone’s standing in the industry grants her the agency to set such boundaries. She noted that after years of establishing herself as a leading figure in Indian cinema, Padukone has earned the right to manage her time, especially while raising a daughter. “If today she is keen to work for eight hours, she has earned it,” Ranaut stated, adding that an issue should not be created over a mother’s professional preferences.

The “Emergency” actor reflected on the early stages of their respective careers, recalling a time when both actresses worked grueling 12- to 14-hour days to achieve success. Ranaut affirmed that while younger actors are often more replaceable and must push themselves further, the priorities of established stars naturally evolve. She asserted that being the top-most actress and a parent changes one’s perspective on work-life balance.

Despite the shifts in her working hours, Padukone continues to manage a significant lineup of films, including Atlee’s “Raaka” and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “King.” Meanwhile, Ranaut, following her portrayal of Indira Gandhi, is preparing for her international debut in the upcoming horror-drama “Blessed Be the Evil.”
