CHANDIGARH, APRIL 25 — Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Harpal Singh Cheema declared on Friday that the BJP’s recent maneuvers to break the AAP’s ranks constitute a significant threat to Indian democracy. The Punjab Cabinet Minister maintained that the central government is actively seeking to undermine the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar by targeting the political representation of Punjabis through inducements and intimidation.

Cheema stated that the defection of seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs to the BJP represents a profound betrayal of the trust placed in them by the people of Punjab. He affirmed that these actions, overseen by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demonstrate that the BJP does not respect democratic mandates. The Minister noted that while other regions might yield to such tactics, Punjab has a storied history of defeating those who attempt to dominate its people through force or fear.

The Minister asserted that the BJP’s agenda is driven by its inability to win through traditional democratic means in the state. He stated that the public remains acutely aware of the central government’s role in the deaths of 700 farmers during the agitation against previous agricultural laws. Cheema maintained that the people of Punjab would unite to teach the BJP a lesson in the coming elections, ensuring that “opportunists” are held accountable for their choices.

Reflecting on the party’s future, Cheema stated that the Aam Aadmi Party stands like a rock with Arvind Kejriwal and will not be swayed by the deployment of the ED or CBI. He noted that the state government’s focus on justice, particularly regarding sacrilege laws, has made the BJP desperate to disrupt the administration before 2027. He affirmed that the AAP is resolute in its mission to protect state rights and will continue to uphold the principles of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, declaring that the party would rather face hardship than kneel before oppressive politics.
