Chandigarh, April 28: The senior leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab declared their firm support for National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, describing his refusal to appear before a specific judicial bench as a principled act of satyagraha. State leaders asserted that the decision is rooted in a commitment to self-respect and the preservation of public trust in legal institutions.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann noted that the move reflects a willingness to sacrifice for the sake of justice. Taking to social media, the Chief Minister stated, “Arvind Kejriwal has demonstrated that one must be ready to sacrifice anything for justice and self-respect.” He further remarked that when impartiality is questioned, the very foundation of public confidence is impacted.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora echoed these sentiments, suggesting that political influences can sometimes cloud the pursuit of fairness. He maintained that doubts regarding impartiality are natural in cases involving the current central administration. “His decision to adopt the path of satyagraha reflects a peaceful yet powerful resistance inspired by Mahatma Gandhi,” Arora affirmed, adding that the judiciary should address these concerns to maintain institutional credibility.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema characterized the step as historic, noting it may be the first instance since independence where a leader has taken such a path to address systemic issues. He declared that the action is intended to safeguard faith in the judicial process and ensure transparency. Other senior leaders, including Harjot Singh Bains and Sanjeev Arora, maintained that the standard of justice requires it to be visible and beyond doubt. Bains stated that when such standards are questioned, taking a stand becomes a “voice of conscience.”
