Sangrur, April 30: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a modern sports stadium in Satouj, marking a significant investment in the state’s athletic infrastructure. The facility, estimated to cost ₹14.63 crore, is designed to provide professional training environments for regional youth.
Spanning 4.38 acres, the complex will feature a 200-meter athletic track, a dedicated pavilion for spectators, and a multipurpose indoor sports hall. The administration stated that the hub will support a variety of disciplines, including football, gymnastics, basketball, and traditional sports like kabaddi.
“It is a historic day for the region as this stadium is coming up at a cost of ₹14.63 crore,” the Chief Minister stated during the ceremony. He maintained that the availability of such world-class facilities is essential for guiding children toward global recognition.
The project is part of a broader state strategy to use sports as a constructive alternative for the youth. Government officials noted that providing high-quality playgrounds alongside educational improvements serves as a social intervention to promote a healthier lifestyle.
“This project will help in further breaking the backbone of drugs by fostering sporting culture in the state,” the Chief Minister affirmed. He declared that the facility would help channel the energy of the youth in a positive direction, allowing them to pursue medals in both national and international competitions.
