Ambala, October 23, 2024: A day after Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij conducted surprise inspections at three bus stands, district officials discovered that an eatery at the Ambala Cantt bus stand was operating without a license. The revelation came as part of the minister’s efforts to address irregularities in the state’s transportation services.
Vij, who took charge on Monday, visited the bus stand in his constituency intending to board a bus to Delhi. During his visit, he identified multiple discrepancies, leading him to order the suspension of the bus stand’s in-charge, Ajeet Singh. He also reprimanded the general manager of Haryana Roadways in Ambala for various issues, including encroachments affecting public space. Following his inspection, Vij extended his checks to the Karnal and Panipat bus stands.
Dr. Yogesh Kadyan, the district food safety officer, reported that following the minister’s visit, multiple teams arrived at the Ambala Cantt bus stand the same day to collect samples from food vendors. However, several shopkeepers closed their eateries and left before inspections could be completed. “On our second visit, we found an eatery operating without any license,” Kadyan stated.
Regarding the sampling process, Kadyan noted that most food items being sold were packaged products rather than freshly prepared meals. “Despite this, we collected a sample of a milk product, and we are currently awaiting the results,” he added.
At the Karnal bus stand, Vij’s inspection prompted immediate action, as shopkeepers cleared encroachments that were blocking public pathways, demonstrating the impact of his oversight.
