New Delhi, June 6: A massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar led by the Cockroach Janta Party drew thousands of protesters on Saturday, resulting in a strict deadline for the union education minister to step down and multiple preventive police detentions. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the crowd of students and young professionals to voice support for the movement, which stems from alleged irregularities in nationwide examinations and recruitment tests.
Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke issued a direct challenge to the central leadership during the demonstration, setting a strict timeline for political accountability.
“If Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan does not step down by 5 pm, protests will be intensified across the country,” Dipke asserted to the gathering.
As crowds swelled, Delhi Police personnel intervened to manage the perimeter and prevent potential clashes between conflicting factions. Law enforcement officials confirmed that six individuals were taken into custody during the afternoon.
“The detentions were made as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order after police received inputs about the possibility of tensions between supporters and opposers of the online movement,” a senior official stated.
The authorities maintained that the situation remained under control throughout the day, ensuring that the heavy security presence prevented any major disruptions. According to police reports, the six individuals taken into preventive custody were found attempting to create a disturbance near the primary protest site, though the demonstration ultimately concluded peacefully without further incident.
