New Delhi, June 26: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has updated the passport fee structure across the country, marking the first fiscal revision for these travel documents since 2012. Under the newly notified Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, a standard 36-page booklet for adult applicants will see its base price adjusted starting next month to align with updated administrative operational costs.

According to the official notification issued under the Passports Act of 1967, a fresh or reissued 36-page passport under the normal processing application window will cost ₹2,500, moving up from the previous rate of ₹1,500. For citizens requiring expedited processing, the MEA declared that the Tatkaal scheme for a standard booklet will be adjusted from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000 beginning July 1.

The structural changes also extend to larger booklets frequently requested by regular international travelers. The government stated that a 60-page booklet will carry a normal processing fee of ₹3,500 and a Tatkaal fee of ₹6,000, while the replacement cost for lost or damaged documents has been re-indexed up to a maximum of ₹8,500 depending on the booklet size and processing speed selected.

| Passport Category      | Normal Scheme Fee | Tatkaal Scheme Fee|

| Adult 36-Page Booklet  | ₹2,500            | ₹5,000            |

| Adult 60-Page Booklet  | ₹3,500            | ₹6,000            |

| Minor 36-Page Booklet  | ₹1,750            | ₹4,250            |

Minor applicants under 18 years of age will follow a separate balanced pricing model designed for shorter-validity booklets. A fresh or reissued minor passport will be fixed at ₹1,750 for normal applications and ₹4,250 under the rapid Tatkaal channel.

The foreign ministry affirmed that ancillary certification processes will also adapt to the updated framework. Miscellaneous services, including Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), Surrender Certificates, and Global Entry Programme verifications, will be regularized at ₹750 within domestic centers and USD 40 at international missions, while domestic Emergency Certificates will remain accessible free of cost.
