New Delhi/Chandigarh, July 15: The Congress high command has initiated a comprehensive review of the ongoing factional disagreements within its Punjab unit to determine the future course of the state leadership. Congress leader and Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel submitted his detailed organizational report to AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday following an intensive six-day consultation process in the state. The central leadership is expected to deliberate thoroughly on the internal feedback before finalizing any structural changes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

The submission follows crucial high-level discussions held by senior leader Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Venugopal to address the internal rifts. The feedback gathering involved interactions with 92 prominent figures, including sitting legislators and former ministers, who shared their perspectives on the party’s electoral prospects under the current setup. Leaders such as former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Bharat Bhushan Ashu participated in these sessions.

Addressing media queries regarding potential organizational restructuring, Baghel dismissed rumors of sudden actions and confirmed that Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has not stepped down. The Punjab in-charge asserted that the party values stability and careful planning when managing its leadership structure.

“I met leaders from across the state, both in meetings at the Punjab Congress Committee office and through one-to-one interactions. Based on those discussions, I have submitted my report to Venugopal,” Baghel stated to reporters.

Furthering the consultation process, Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa also arrived at Venugopal’s residence as top party officials continued their evaluation. During the earlier state-level interactions, several senior leaders discussed organizational efficiency and future electoral readiness under the current administration. While maintaining that there were no personal grievances against the state chief, various members expressed distinct opinions regarding the strategies required to guide the Congress back to power in the upcoming assembly polls.

Baghel maintained that the political process requires careful governance rather than abrupt shifts. He declared that leadership changes cannot be handled like “a game of puppets or dolls”, indicating that the Congress high command would take a considered call after examining the feedback received from party leaders.
