Chandigarh, July 17: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has enacted a strict policy making the use of body-worn cameras compulsory for all Enforcement Branch staff during field duties. The directive requires every official action and public interaction during field drives to be recorded continuously. Administrative heads described the transition as a decisive shift toward modern, technology-driven municipal administration focused on citizen welfare.
The equipment rollout covers multiple tiers of the field workforce to ensure widespread coverage during operations.
The cameras have been issued to sub-inspectors, drivers, labourers and other enforcement field staff, who will now wear them during every enforcement drive to record official interactions.
City administrators stated that the visual documentation will establish an indisputable, authentic record of anti-encroachment actions. The gathered data will be safely stored to enable senior supervisors to conduct objective internal reviews whenever complaints or operational disagreements arise from the public.
Mayor Saurabh Joshi affirmed that the deployment serves as a protective shield for both the residents of the city and the municipal teams, minimizing ground-level confrontations and preventing false misconduct claims.
“Every enforcement action will now be backed by digital evidence,” Joshi said, adding that the move is meant to safeguard the interests of both citizens and enforcement personnel by preventing disputes and ensuring impartial and transparent conduct.
The civic chief declared that incorporating modern technology into daily field operations remains essential for maintaining institutional integrity. He maintained that the updated operational protocol will directly reduce arbitrary actions and promote higher standards of professional behavior among ground teams.
“Transparent governance is the foundation of public trust. This is a decisive step towards making Chandigarh’s civic administration more accountable and technology-driven,” the mayor asserted.
