Chandigarh, August 3: The opening day of the Punjab Assembly Monsoon Session in Chandigarh saw heated discussions on Monday as AAP MLA Kulwant Singh raised key infrastructure and road safety concerns regarding the PR-7 Airport Road in Mohali. Highlighting high traffic volumes along the corridor, the legislator brought attention to an accident-prone stretch near Gurdwara Mata Sundri Sahib that has claimed over sixty lives since its construction.
The discussion centers on an structural alignment issue where the highway takes a sharp curve around the religious site, creating a hazardous hazard for commuters.
Raising the matter on the floor of the House, MLA Kulwant Singh stated that an administrative resolution had originally been reached in 2011 to compensate and relocate the affected section with land allocation. He affirmed that while initial decisions were made to provide monetary compensation and alternate land to the gurdwara management, administrative delay has prevented execution, resulting in the designated parcel being sold off instead.
The legislator maintained that local religious leadership had previously indicated willingness to cooperate with necessary land transfers for public safety.
Responding to the query, the concerned Cabinet Minister declared that department officials will be summoned to the administrative office immediately to review the pending files, coordinate with the management, and work out an expedited resolution to realign the road.
