Bhind, August 18: Eight agricultural workers lost their lives and over 25 sustained injuries when a high-speed truck collided with their loading vehicle on National Highway-719 in Bhind district, police officials confirmed. The victims, all hailing from Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh, were returning home after completing seasonal paddy transplantation work across Dabra and Chinor in Gwalior.
“Around 12 midnight, an accident took place on National Highway-719. There were casualties, and around 25 people were injured,” stated Ramnarsh Yadav, Gohad Chauraha police station in-charge.
The station in-charge affirmed that emergency teams along with local motorists mounted immediate rescue operations near Chhimka village to extricate victims trapped under the overturned vehicle.
“Five people died on the spot, while three succumbed while undergoing treatment,” Yadav stated, adding that the injured were rushed to the Gwalior Trauma Centre, where several remain in critical condition.
Law enforcement authorities declared that investigations remain active to establish the precise sequence of events leading to the collision.
“The accident happened near Chhimka village, involving a truck and a loading vehicle in which the workers were travelling,” Yadav stated, noting that the exact cause of the crash remains under formal investigation.
Surviving workers recounted that their vehicle was struck head-on hours into their return journey, causing the pickup to overturn instantly on the highway stretch.
