Lucknow, Sept 15: The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath maintained grid stability across the state despite a shortfall of 1,500 to 2,000 MW caused by nationwide coal supply disruptions. Torrential rains in mining belts reduced thermal power generation, while hydro and wind generation also witnessed a decline.
Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal declared that the state is managing resources to meet supply targets across rural areas, tehsil headquarters, Nagar Panchayats, and the Bundelkhand region. Officials were directed during a review meeting to procure power from every available source and optimize local distribution.
Power demand in the state has risen compared to the previous year, with nationwide thermal generation impacted by nearly 35 GW. Despite these challenges, Uttar Pradesh is maintaining a generation and procurement supply of nearly 27,000 MW. While limited night-time load shedding is being undertaken in rural pockets, officials asserted that power availability will improve by 1,500 MW within two to three days as units at Anpara-D, Harduaganj-E, and Jawaharpur return to service following boiler tube repairs.
The management affirmed that coal diversion from Anpara to Lanco and improved stock dispatches at Bara have already boosted nighttime availability by 700 MW. State authorities have also engaged with the Ministry of Coal to expedite shipments and sustain uninterrupted daytime supply statewide.
