Punjab Bandh Called for December 30 Amid Farmers’ Protests

Chandigarh, 29 Dec. 2024: Punjab will observe a complete bandh on Monday, December 30, following a call by farmers protesting at the Shambu and Khanuri borders. Only emergency services will remain operational during the shutdown. Residents across the state have been urged to support the bandh, which precedes a massive Kisan Mahapanchayat scheduled for January 4 at the Khanuri border.

Meanwhile, farmer leader Balkaran Singh Dallewal’s health has worsened significantly during his hunger strike. Rising ketone levels and an inability to consume water have raised concerns about his critical condition, with doctors insisting on immediate hospitalization.

Dallewal, visibly disheartened by a Supreme Court order, expressed his disappointment, questioning the empathy shown by the judiciary. “The Supreme Court is the last hope for someone denied justice elsewhere, but this decision feels like the voice of the central government,” he remarked. He reiterated that his fast is a voluntary decision, free of external pressure.
