New Delhi, 3 January 2025 – Dense fog blanketed Delhi early Friday, causing significant travel disruptions as visibility dropped to near zero. Over 100 flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were delayed, while trains arriving and departing from the city experienced substantial delays.
“Landing and takeoffs are continuing at Delhi Airport, but flights not compliant with CAT III operations may face issues. Passengers should contact their respective airlines for updated flight information. We regret any inconvenience caused,” Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) announced in a post on X at 6:35 a.m.
CAT III technology allows aircraft to navigate and operate in low-visibility conditions, minimizing disruptions. However, airlines cautioned passengers about the possibility of cancellations if the fog persists. IGIA, operated by DIAL, handles approximately 1,300 flight movements daily.
Train services also faced severe disruptions. At least 24 trains departing from Delhi were delayed due to adverse weather. The Ayodhya Express was delayed by four hours, while the Gorakhdham Express and Bihar Kranti Express ran over three hours behind schedule. Other services, including the Shram Shakti Express, faced similar setbacks.
Passengers are advised to monitor travel updates closely as authorities work to manage operations under challenging conditions.
