Children of Female Inmates to Be Enrolled in Anganwadi Centers

FARIDKOT, 4 January 2025: Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced plans to enroll children of female inmates in Anganwadi Centers to ensure access to nutritious food and primary education. The announcement came during her visit to the Modern Central Jail in Faridkot, where she assessed the needs of women prisoners and their children.

“Anganwadi Centers will play a crucial role in ensuring basic nutrition and education for children residing in jails,” she said.

To empower women inmates, the Minister highlighted the establishment of a sewing center within the jail aimed at imparting skills to prepare them for life beyond incarceration. Dr. Kaur said the initiative seeks to make women prisoners self-reliant and improve their reintegration into society.

A cultural program held during the visit saw enthusiastic participation from female inmates, showcasing their talents and creativity. The Minister lauded their spirit and pledged continued support for similar rehabilitative activities.

Dr. Kaur also mentioned that awareness camps focusing on health check-ups and employment opportunities for women are being organized across Punjab. “Recently, a camp in Faridkot district benefitted many women, and we aim to ensure these facilities reach every individual,” she added.

The visit included an evaluation of health conditions, the physical well-being of inmates, and the facilities available for children of prisoners. She noted that uplifting women prisoners.
