Amritsar, January 15: A grenade blast occurred at the house of the late Rajinder Kumar, also known as Pappu Jaintipuria, in Jaintipur village on Wednesday night.
The incident happened around 7:50 p.m. when three motorcycle-borne assailants hurled a grenade into the compound.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the family was away in Batala attending a function.
The grenade caused minor damage, with plants in the lawn bearing the brunt of the blast.
SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal stated, “The explosive was not RDX as some rumors suggested. It was a low-intensity blast, and forensic analysis will determine its exact nature. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects.”
CCTV footage capturing the attack has surfaced, aiding the police investigation.
Security has been provided to the family, who reportedly faced threats from foreign-based gangsters. Amandeep Kumar, Jaintipuria’s son, had been the target of repeated intimidation, as per SAD leader Bikram Majithia.
Majithia, a prominent figure in Punjab’s political landscape and a close ally of Jaintipuria, shared the incident on social media, tagging Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, DGP Gaurav Yadav, and Amritsar rural police.
He questioned the deteriorating law and order in the state.
The attack has been claimed by gangster-turned-terrorist Happy Pashia.
This marks the sixth such grenade-related incident in Amritsar district within the past month and a half.
