New Delhi, 9 February 2025: A day after securing a decisive win in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday sought an appointment with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for a meeting of its newly elected MLAs and city MPs.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, in a letter to Saxena, requested a meeting with the 48 MLAs and seven Lok Sabha MPs from the city. “I, along with the BJP MPs from Delhi and our newly elected 48 MLAs, wish to meet you at an early date. Please allow an appointment at your convenience,” he wrote.
The BJP reclaimed power in Delhi after 26 years, securing 48 out of 70 seats and defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won 22. The Congress failed to win any seats.
According to party leaders, the government formation is expected to take place once Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his foreign visit. Meanwhile, speculation over the next chief minister is gaining momentum, with several senior leaders in contention.
Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, has emerged as a strong contender after defeating AAP convener and former CM Arvind Kejriwal.
