Thiruvananthapuram, 3 March — A Kerala man attempting to illegally cross the Jordan-Israel border was shot dead by forces, his family confirmed after receiving an email from the Indian Embassy in Amman.
The deceased, 47-year-old Thomas Gabriel Periera from Thiruvananthapuram, had been living in Jordan’s Thumba. He was reportedly with an acquaintance, Edison, who survived with bullet injuries and was deported to India earlier this week.
His wife recalled their final conversation, saying it lasted only two minutes. “He just asked me to pray for him,” she told ANI. His sister-in-law added, “We don’t know what exactly happened. He left on February 5 without informing anyone, and on February 9, he made his last call.”
The family learned of his death through an email stating his body was in a government hospital in Jordan. They have urged the Indian government to facilitate the repatriation of his remains.
In a statement on X, the Indian Embassy in Jordan confirmed, “The Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working closely with Jordanian authorities for transportation of mortal remains.”
