Dera Bassi (Mohali), March 6: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Sri Sukhmani Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening healthcare and medical education under the ‘Sehatmand Punjab’ mission.
Underlining the importance of a robust healthcare system, Mann said that medical colleges play a dual role in producing skilled doctors and enhancing public health services.
“Our government is ensuring that students can pursue medical education within Punjab while also expanding healthcare infrastructure to meet the needs of the people,” he stated.
Healthcare is the backbone of any prosperous society, and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that no one in Punjab is deprived of quality medical treatment,” he stated.
The Chief Minister mentioned the establishment of 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab, calling it a “revolution in the state’s healthcare sector.”
He added that the new medical college in Dera Bassi, the second in Mohali district after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, would “provide top-notch healthcare services while increasing MBBS seats for aspiring doctors.”
During the event, Mann also addressed students participating in LAMHA-2025, a youth festival organized by Sri Sukhmani Institute.
He praised such events for shaping young minds and recalled his own experiences in college festivals, attributing them to his personal and professional growth.
Encouraging students to stay focused and avoid negative influences, the CM compared the government’s efforts to airport runways—providing youth with a strong foundation to take off toward their dreams.
He urged them to maintain confidence without arrogance, stating that perseverance and a positive mindset are key to success.
