Mumbai, 19 December 2024: Despite not making it to the top 15 shortlist for the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, Aamir Khan’s film Laapataa Ladies (Lost Ladies) remains a source of pride for its team. Although the film failed to advance, the production team expressed gratitude for the recognition the film received throughout its journey.

In a statement issued by Aamir Khan Productions, the team acknowledged their disappointment at missing the shortlist but emphasized their appreciation for the support they had received from the industry and audiences alike.

“While Laapataa Ladies did not make it to the Academy Awards shortlist this year, we are, of course, disappointed,” the statement reads. “However, we are immensely grateful for the incredible support and belief we’ve received along the way.”

The statement also conveyed thanks to the Academy members and the Film Federation of India (FFI) jury for considering the film. “To be included in this prestigious process alongside some of the finest films worldwide is an honor in itself. We express our heartfelt thanks to all the audiences around the world who have supported our film.”

Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies was India’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category, chosen by the FFI. Although the selection stirred some debate, with many critics feeling Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light might have been a stronger contender, the team remains focused on the future.

The statement concluded: “We congratulate the teams of all the top 15 shortlisted films and wish them success in the next stages. For us, this is not the end but a step forward. We remain committed to bringing powerful stories to life and sharing them with the world. Thank you for being a part of this journey.”
