Sonepat, 24 January 2025: Actors Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade, who served as brand ambassadors of the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society, are among 13 individuals booked in a cheating and breach of trust case involving the fraudulent transfer of property, Murthal police in Sonepat revealed on Friday.
The case, filed on January 22 based on a complaint from Sonepat resident Vipul Antil, accuses the Indore-registered cooperative society of duping investors under the guise of promising high returns. “The society, active since September 2016 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, had its state office in Mahendragarh and over 250 offices across Haryana,” Antil stated in his complaint.
According to Antil, the cooperative lured investors through fixed deposit and returning deposit schemes and organized seminars in luxury hotels in Haryana to promote the programs. The actors endorsed these schemes, appealing to people to invest.
Initially, the society provided regular incentives to agents and honored its maturity promises. However, the payout system faltered in 2023, leading to delayed payments to investors. Antil alleged, “The offices are now shut, the owners are untraceable, and investors are left in the lurch.”
Antil and his brother reportedly invested ₹4.33 crore in the schemes, pooling money from relatives and family members. They are now demanding repayment.
Station House Officer Devender Kumar of the Murthal police station confirmed that 13 individuals have been booked under Sections 316(2), 318(2), and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused include Alok Nath, Shreyas Talpade, society operator Narender Negi (Indore), Samir Aggarwal (Dubai), and Haryana heads Akash Shrivastava and Pappu Sharma.
“We are investigating all accused. Their phones remain switched off, but the inquiry is ongoing,” Kumar added.
