Ajmer, 15 February 2025: Gautam Adani, chairperson of Adani Group, along with his wife, Priti Adani, visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, offering a “makhmali chadar” and flowers at the shrine.
The Ajmer Sharif Dargah, dedicated to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, is among India’s holiest Muslim shrines and a landmark of Ajmer. The 13th-century Sufi saint, originally from Persia, preached values of unity and spiritual devotion. Reflecting his teachings, the shrine welcomes visitors of all faiths.
The inner sanctum, made of marble and adorned with gold plating, is enclosed by a silver railing and a marble screen. The site has drawn emperors and dignitaries for centuries, with Mughal rulers Akbar and Shah Jahan constructing mosques within the complex. Akbar is known to have undertaken an annual pilgrimage to Ajmer.
Last month, Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju presented a sacred chadar at the Dargah on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the annual Urs, a commemoration of the Sufi saint that symbolizes harmony and devotion. The minister also introduced new initiatives aimed at improving the experience of pilgrims, including the release of an Operations Manual for Urs, the launch of an official Dargah Web Portal, and the introduction of the “Garib Nawaz” App.
The Operations Manual outlines detailed protocols for crowd management, security, healthcare, and sustainability during the annual gathering. The digital platforms provide pilgrims with access to schedules, lodging information, and essential services, aligning with the government’s Digital India initiative.
“The Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is a unique occasion that brings people together, transcending boundaries of faith and culture. With these new initiatives, we strive to uphold the sanctity of the event while ensuring a seamless and enriched experience for the devotees,” Rijiju said.
